Love it! – It cools very well a 500 sq ft apartment and At first i was a bit skeptical about the noise but it seems that it has a breaking in process where the noise is less after you use it continuously. Now its only noisy for a couple minutes on start up and then i guess it warms up and it gets much better! So dont get discouraged as it works great!!

So far, so good under tough conditions – I was hesitant to buy the B&D unit after reading the reviews. People seemed to love it or it went horribly wrong. But I’ve learned that by nature, many more reviews are written by people with issues than people who have no complaints. I typically figure on a curve that a 3-4 rating would have at least 25% more 4 and 5 star customers than stated, meaning at least half a star more. That said, toward the extremes (1.0 or 5.0) the accuracy is inherently better. It’s either trash or nearly perfect. For this reason I also try to get as much info as I can outside of Amazon. A Google search of “the best portable air conditioner” yields a ton of info. In nearly every case, this Black and Decker series was rated in the top 3 and often #1. That went a long way to convince me. I pulled the trigger and 72 hours in have not been disappointed so far. Set up was easy, instructions were clear for both install and operation. I have it in a large, mostly insulated room in the attic over the garage with no other climate control. Part of it is sided by a black roof. Today the outside temp was 88 degrees and sunny. For reference, the unfinished part of the attic was 104. A good test for the unit. I started it mid morning with the room temp at about 80. I set it at 77 and it brought it down fairly quick. It maintained it all afternoon when the sun usually raises the room temp to at least 85. The compressor cycled off occasionally as it held temperature. In normal use like a living room or bedroom it should be great.

Great price for such a versatile product! – Love the unit. It’s much quieter than my precious unit. Versatile that if I’m cold can turn heat on, use just the fan or warm and turn a/c on. It’s easy to install, efficient and can move room to room if needed (yes it needs to be window vented but that’s easy enough to do).

Buy it! – I’m a vanlifer working remotely for a software company and I have to be comfortable to keep my focus. This unit works in the van…a little too good sometimes. It also works in a 10 my person “office” tent in a partially shady North Florida campsite in 98 degree weather! When it gets too cold I switch it to Fan and I can sleep through the night with ease. Haven’t tried the heater yet but I’m a couple weeks shy of winter here in Central Florida. Looking forward to some nights without mosquitos! I would be careful of running it in a moist climate like this without checking the interior for mold though. I can see where that could happen as I’ve cleaned some from the air flow panels. The unit has a dehumidifier but never really used it so can’t honestly report on that.

Does the Job! – I have a new addition to my house. Was going to get a mini-split for heating and AC, but they are very expensive (unless you know how to install them). No installation was necessary for the Black and Decker machine other than the hose that goes from the back of the machine out the window. I have windows that slide sideways, which is why I couldn’t get a standard sized AC. The kit for the hose will work for windows that slide horizontally and vertically.
